When it comes to outdoor adventures, having a reliable waterproof backpack is essential. Whether you're in the dinghy, hiking through forest, camping near a river, or exploring rugged terrains, you need the best backpack that can keep your things safe and dry when the weather packs it in. Some brands claim their backpacks are waterproof but things inside seem damp after just a rain shower. If you’re carrying expensive gear outdoors like a laptop or camera (or spare clothes!) you want to trust that they’ll stay dry if you’re hit by a downpour.

Since living aboard and coping with winter storms and wet trips in the dinghy, I’ve been testing out the best durable waterproof backpacks available that are actually waterproof — and narrowed it down to the top three best designs.

Being waterproof is important, but the pack needs to be tough enough to last you for a long time too. So the featured backpacks below combine durability, functionality, and totally waterproof designs to give you the ultimate protection for your gear. Scroll on down and choose the perfect bag for your next adventure.
